Los Diamantes in Rio Rancho, NM
Where Los Diamantes actually sits
Los Diamantes is a newer neighborhood on the south end of Rio Rancho, off Westside Boulevard between Unser and Golf Course. Most of the Los Diamantes homes for sale carry addresses on Los Diamantes Drive, Dijamant Loop SE or Tazanita Loop SE, all inside the 87124 ZIP. The plat covers roughly 137 acres in Rio Rancho's Unit 10, and the community association describes itself as a 487-lot neighborhood. Builder materials have put full build-out closer to 578 homes once every phase lands.
Ask a local for directions and they'll point at Presbyterian Rust Medical Center, about a mile and a half east. That hospital is the reason this corner of the city grew as fast as it did. Ten years ago most of this was empty mesa with a two-lane road through it.
The houses
Three production builders have worked here: D.R. Horton, Pulte, and Hakes Brothers. Homes started going up in the early 2020s and the phases are still delivering, so you'll find both brand-new inventory and resales that are only a few years old on the same street. Sizes run from around 1,300 square feet up past 2,500. Three and four bedrooms, two-car garages, mostly single story with a handful of two-story plans mixed in.
The look is Southwest Contemporary. Stucco, parapet and low-pitch rooflines, earth-tone body colors the association keeps inside a set range. Fenced back yards, front landscaping installed by the builder, xeric more often than turf.
Here's the honest part. These are tract lots. You get a patio, a strip of yard, and a neighbor's wall close enough to talk over. Trees are young and will be for another decade. While the later phases build out, you live with dust, dump trucks, and framing crews starting early. None of that is a dealbreaker, but you should know it going in rather than discovering it on move-in weekend. What you're buying instead is a house that has never needed a roof, a furnace, or a stucco patch.
Schools
This is Rio Rancho Public Schools, not APS, and that distinction matters to a lot of buyers here. Joe Harris Elementary sits directly across from the neighborhood, close enough that plenty of kids walk. Eagle Ridge Middle and Rio Rancho High are both about four miles north. Some listings in the area also reference Puesta del Sol Elementary. Boundaries do get redrawn as the south side fills in, so confirm the current assignment with the district for the specific address rather than trusting a listing sheet.
Parks and everyday errands
The best amenity near here isn't inside the fence. A Park Above, on A Park Above Court just off Westside, is the first fully inclusive playground in New Mexico. Six acres with wheelchair swings and accessible slides, a splash pad, an amphitheater, a basketball court, restrooms with adult changing stations. It cost around $2.1 million and it shows. Families drive in from Albuquerque to use it. You can walk or bike there from most of Los Diamantes.
Groceries, pharmacies, drive-thrus, and the usual chain restaurants are strung along Unser and Westside within a few minutes. For bigger shopping, Cottonwood Mall is a short run southeast. Anything the west side can't cover, you cross the river for.
Getting around
Unser Boulevard is the spine. South to Paseo del Norte puts you over the river and onto I-25 in about twenty minutes outside rush hour, or west onto Coors in ten. Intel's Rio Rancho campus is a short drive north, which is why so many households here have one commute measured in minutes and the other in miles. Rust Medical is close enough that nurses and techs working twelve-hour shifts are a real part of the buyer pool.
The association
The Los Diamantes Community Association is managed by AAM out of their Albuquerque office. Dues are modest by local standards and go toward common areas and road maintenance. There's no pool and no clubhouse, which is exactly why the assessment stays where it does. If you want resort amenities baked into your monthly, this isn't that kind of neighborhood.
It is still a covenant-controlled community, though, and a young one. Expect architectural review for exterior changes, paint, and anything you build in the back yard, plus rules on RV, boat, and trailer parking. Newer associations tend to run loose under developer control and tighten up once homeowners take the board. Read the current CC&Rs and the last few sets of board minutes before you write an offer. That's five minutes of work that saves arguments later.
Who it fits
Buyers who want a new or nearly new house, a short commute to Rust or Intel, and an elementary school across the street. People who'd rather spend weekends at the park than on a ladder. It's a weaker fit if you want mature streets and shade, an acre with a mountain view, or the quiet that comes with a neighborhood that finished building fifteen years ago. Rio Rancho has those too. They're just not here.
