Taos At The Trails in Albuquerque, NM
Taos At The Trails homes for sale sit on Albuquerque's northwest mesa, a few blocks south of Paseo del Norte and just west of Universe Blvd NW. The filing is one piece of The Trails, the master plan that fills the ground between Universe, Rainbow and Woodmont. Tree Line Ave off Universe drops you right into it. Every address here is 87114.
The houses
Express Homes, D.R. Horton's value line, built most of what's standing. Plans ran from compact three-bedroom singles up to four-bedroom two-stories north of 2,700 square feet, and the builder's own marketing put the first filing at 139 lots. This is production housing and it looks like it. Stucco, pitched tile roofs, garage forward, block walls between neighbors. Southwest Contemporary, if you want a label for it.
Lots are small and flat. Front yards are rock and gravel with a few shrubs, the way most newer Westside subdivisions are done, which is a feature if you don't want to own a mower. You'll see the same four or five elevations repeat down a street. Some buyers can't get past that. Others like knowing exactly what they're getting, in a house young enough that the roof and the furnace aren't part of the negotiation. The neighborhood is finished. New construction in The Trails now means apartments and the leftover commercial tracts, not more single-family streets.
The HOA, and what it actually does
Dues run through The Trails Community Home Owners Association, managed by HOAMCO out of their Albuquerque office. Most owners here pay quarterly. What that buys is the common ground: landscaping along the arterials, the trail network, the parks and greenspace, plus a security line in the budget. Covenants are the ordinary production-builder kind. Architectural approval before you change the exterior, rules about where a boat or an RV can sit, an expectation that the front yard stays tidy.
I'd call the association middle of the road. Not invisible, not the type that measures your grass. If you're planning solar, a shed, a casita or a repaint, read the covenants before you write the offer rather than after.
Parks, trails and the escarpment
Hailey Ratliff Park is the center of gravity. Open-air pavilion, playground, sand volleyball court, and enough flat grass for a real game. There's a fenced dog park, soccer and ball fields, and native trails threading the open space. Walkable from most of Taos.
The bigger draw is west. Piedras Marcadas Canyon, part of Petroglyph National Monument, has its trailhead at 9501 Golf Course Rd NW, a short drive from here. The National Park Service counts roughly 5,000 images along that 1.8-mile route, the densest concentration anywhere on the escarpment. No fee, small parking lot, no restrooms. Boca Negra Canyon off Unser is the other easy one.
You're on high ground out here. Second-story windows on the right lot catch the Sandias to the east and the volcanoes on the western horizon. Sunsets are the payoff. So is the wind in March and April, which is the honest trade for living on an open mesa.
Getting around, and getting groceries
Paseo del Norte is the artery. East over the river it feeds I-25, and since the widening it's the quickest way off this side of town, though a bridge is still a bridge and that's the whole conversation on the Westside. Coors and Unser handle north and south. Cottonwood Mall, Costco and the big boxes along Coors Bypass are about ten minutes out. Everyday shopping and restaurants cluster at Paseo and Golf Course, and again at Coors and Paseo. Downtown, UNM and Nob Hill are a commitment, not an errand.
Schools
Albuquerque Public Schools serves the area, and listings here typically feed Tierra Antigua Elementary, Tony Hillerman Middle and Volcano Vista High. Boundaries do move. Confirm with APS for a specific address before it matters to you.
Who it fits
This works for buyers who want a newer house, a garage, a yard they can maintain in ten minutes, and a short drive to Westside or Rio Rancho employers, including the Intel corridor up US-550. It works less well if you want mature trees, an acre, a lot with some character to it, or a quick run to the university. Set against the older Westside addresses closer to Coors, Taos is younger stock on tighter lots with more association structure around it. Look through the listings on this page to see what's available and how the floor plans differ.
