Sandia Heights North in Albuquerque, NM

Sandia Heights North is the northern half of Sandia Heights, an unincorporated stretch of Bernalillo County at the western base of the Sandia Mountains, just past Albuquerque's city limits. Tramway Road separates it from the South units, and the Sandia Peak Tramway base station sits off its northern edge. Four platted units make up this side, North 0 through North 3, plus two enclaves that keep their own associations. Houses sit on half-acre to full-acre lots at roughly 6,000 feet, many in pueblo-style stucco with flat roofs, others in contemporary glass and steel.

The wider Sandia Heights development dates to 1965 and covers about 1,600 acres of foothills, carved over the decades into 38 units that each carry their own recorded covenants. Hawks Landing and North Tramway Estates are the two north-side enclaves that govern themselves.

The Sandia Heights Homeowners Association speaks for owners on both sides of Tramway Road. It handles covenant support and architectural review, publishes the GRIT newsletter, and arranges discounted tram passes for members.

Water and wastewater come from Sandia Peak Utility Company rather than the city, and trash collection, recycling and a roving security patrol run under the same Sandia Heights Services umbrella, which has served the area for more than fifty years. Elena Gallegos Open Space adjoins the neighborhood and links into Cibola National Forest trails climbing toward the crest.
