Tierra Vista in Albuquerque, NM

Tierra Vista is a D.R. Horton subdivision on Albuquerque's far west side, built inside the master-planned Trails community off Paseo del Norte, near where Rainbow Boulevard meets Woodmont Avenue. The houses went up in the mid-2010s as single-family production plans, each certified to Build Green NM Silver standards for energy efficiency. The builder finished the last of the lots, so the streets share one build vintage rather than filling in over decades. Residents fold into the wider Trails development, with its walking paths and the grass and playground at Hailey Ratliff Trails Park. Paseo del Norte carries commuters east toward Montano and I-40.

The Trails covers about 105 acres in northwest Albuquerque, and Tierra Vista is one piece of it. Price Land Development Group entitled the land and brought the single-family lots to market for a mix of regional and national builders — Abrazo Homes, Hakes Brothers and D.R. Horton among them. Preparing the site took new infrastructure, including a two-million-gallon water reservoir and transmission line. Tracts zoned for apartments and commercial use remain, and one large multifamily parcel has already changed hands, so the edges of the plan are still filling in.

Homes here fall under The Trails Community Home Owners Association, which serves the wider development.

The park at the heart of the development started life as The Trails Park. The City renamed it for Hailey Ratliff, a Tony Hillerman Middle School student killed while riding her bike to school, and dedicated it in her memory.
