Legends at High Desert in Albuquerque, NM

Legends at High Desert is one of the gated villages inside High Desert, the 675-acre development that Albuquerque Academy's High Desert Investment Corporation began planning and building in the early 1990s on land carved from the old Elena Gallegos Land Grant. It sits in the northeast foothills near Tramway and Academy, with a single vehicle gate opening onto Academy Road and locked pedestrian gates elsewhere. Card, remote and guest call-in entry plus a round-the-clock security patrol set the tone. Owners belong to the High Desert Residential Owners Association, which maintains the shared landscaping and common areas across the wider community.

Each village elects a voting member to the association board, and HOAMCO runs day-to-day management and vendor coordination; assessments are set by the board and billed quarterly. The Legends is one of eight gated villages among the twenty-five that make up High Desert.

The wider development kept four arroyos as open space, shaped its street layout around them, and irrigates common areas from two underground harvesting tanks beneath Tramway and Academy. The Michel Emery trailhead connects residents to Forest Service land in the foothills.
