La Luz Del Sol in Albuquerque, NM

Most people who end up looking at La Luz Del Sol homes for sale found the place by accident. They were driving Coors, turned east toward the river somewhere around Montaño, and realized there's a whole pocket of housing back there between the boulevard and the bosque they'd never noticed. That's the area. Small, quiet, and hemmed in by land that can't be built on.

The address, plainly

La Luz del Sol sits east of Coors Boulevard on Albuquerque's west side, in the stretch between Montaño Road and Namaste Road, all of it 87120. The street names run Spanish. Almeria, Costa Almeria, Costa Maresme. It's part of the larger Andalucía de La Luz master plan and it keeps its own landowners association, which the city recognizes separately from the older La Luz association in the same pocket. Those two get confused constantly. They are not the same place.

The famous neighbor

Right next to it is La Luz del Oeste: 96 adobe townhomes Antoine Predock designed between 1967 and 1974, his first major commission. It went onto the New Mexico State Register of Cultural Properties in 1977 and the National Register of Historic Places in 2023. Predock's plan left roughly 40 acres undeveloped as a viewshed toward the river and the Sandias. That decision, made before almost any of the surrounding housing existed, is the biggest single reason this pocket still feels open. You're borrowing a view somebody protected fifty years ago.

What the houses are like

This is mid-2000s production housing, Pulte among the builders. Single-family, stucco, Southwest Contemporary with some Territorial detailing — parapets, canales, the occasional portal. Two-story plans are common because the lots aren't generous. Think mid-2000s through the 2010s rather than anything historic. The master plan around it took a NAIOP award in 2009, which tells you when the bulk of it went in.

Lots are modest and walled, with low-water landscaping, gravel, and a few cottonwoods. If you want a half acre and room for a horse, this is the wrong side of Coors. Go north to Corrales. What you get here instead is a short walk to the river and a house that isn't thirty years old.

Outside your door

The bosque is the whole point. Pueblo Montaño sits south of Montaño and east of Coors, with parking, an accessible picnic area and equestrian parking, and it puts you straight onto the west-side trails under the cottonwoods. The paved Paseo del Bosque Trail runs about 16 miles from Alameda down to Rio Bravo on the far bank. A little to the north, a short trail off Namaste Road, maybe 400 feet of it, opens onto an overlook of the San Antonio Oxbow wetlands. Easy thing to do on a weekday evening. Hardly anyone does it.

All of this falls inside Rio Grande Valley State Park, which is why it stays the way it is.

Shopping, schools, getting around

Groceries are close. The Andalucía retail center at the southeast corner of Coors and Montaño is anchored by Sprouts, with more strip retail up and down Coors. St. Pius X High School is right there off Sevilla.

Public schools follow the Taylor Ranch pattern: Chaparral Elementary on Milne Road NW, Lyndon B. Johnson Middle on Taylor Ranch Road, then Volcano Vista High. Confirm the boundary before you write an offer. APS redraws them.

Commuting is the honest trade-off. The Montaño bridge gets you across the river quickly, and Paseo del Norte and I-40 are both a few minutes out. But Coors is Coors. It backs up at rush hour, and living east of it means merging into that every morning. If you work on the west side or downtown you'll be fine. If you're headed to the Heights or out to Sandia, drive it once at 7:30 before you commit.

Who it suits

Buyers who want a newer house, a small yard that doesn't demand weekends, and the river a few minutes away on foot. It's a poor fit if you're after acreage, a big custom build, or a neighborhood with a lot going on. This is a quiet pocket, not a destination. Turnover is low, which is a compliment and a frustration at the same time. Inventory stays thin, so if you're set on this specific area, have your financing lined up and be ready to move when something opens up.

One thing to check on the association

Dues and covenants vary between the different pockets inside the Andalucía plan. Some sections are gated, like El Bosque with its 54 home sites, and some aren't. Pull the actual covenants for the specific street you're buying on. Don't assume what applies next door applies to you.
