High Desert covers the last stretch of ground between Tramway Boulevard and the Cibola National Forest, at the northeast corner of Albuquerque. Most addresses are 87111. It's roughly two dozen separate villages spread across about 675 acres, each platted differently, and those differences matter more than the shared name on the sign.The land came firstThe ground was part of the old Elena Gallegos Land Grant, later held by Albert G. Simms, and eventually by the Albuquerque Academy. In 1991 the Academy's board set up High Desert Investment Corporation to develop it. Dirt started moving in the early nineties.
