Trumbull Village in Albuquerque, NM

87108 · International District · Albuquerque, NM

Trumbull Village is a residential neighborhood in southeast Albuquerque, one of five neighborhoods that make up the International District, the 3.9-square-mile area framed by San Mateo, Lomas, Wyoming and Gibson boulevards. It filled in during the postwar building boom, when the city grew from about 35,000 residents in 1940 to more than 200,000 by 1960 and Central Avenue, the old Route 66, lined itself with motels and diners. Streets run on a plain grid. Trumbull Park anchors the middle of it, and the neighborhood keeps a voluntary association registered with the city rather than a homeowners association.

Trumbull Park holds a city child development center, which reopened after a renovation that added two classrooms and rebuilt the playground. Parks and Recreation followed with a master planning process for the grounds, shaped by public input.

Expo New Mexico, the state fairgrounds established in 1938, stands nearby in the same district, so fair season arrives close to home.
